Located in Westminster, the Buckingham Palace is London's official residence of the British Monarchy. Even though the original building was a townhouse built for the Duke of Buckingham in 1703 (and lately acquired by George III as a personal residence), it became the official Royal Residence during Queen Victoria’s reign. Nowadays, it is also the administrative headquarters of the Monarchy and the venue for great Royal ceremonies, State Visits and Investitures, all organised by the Royal Household.

The Buckingham Palace has 775 rooms including 19 State rooms, 52 Royal and guest bedrooms, 188 staff bedrooms, 92 offices and 78 bathrooms. It is a huge and impressive structure with 120 metres long across the front, 108 metres deep (including the central quadrangle) and 24 metres high.

The most remarkable rooms are the Gallery and the Music room. The Gallery exposes numerous works including some by Rembrandt, Van Dyck, Rubens and Vermeer. On the other hand, the Music room is used as the official place for presentations to the Queen during visits of foreign Heads of State, and was place of four Royal baby’s baptism.

Although the State Rooms are used for many official events and receptions held by the Queen, they are open to visitors every year during the summer. Moreover, many special events such as exhibitions and guided tours are organised each season.
