Greenwich is the city district located in the Southern bank of the Thames River. Declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1997 for its cultural, architectural and cientific value, it is worldwide known by its maritime and astronomic importance.

Greenwich Mean Time settlement was based on the time caclulations done at the Royal Observatory. The current Prime Meridian (0º longitude) passes by this building and holds various curius objects such as a 24 hour clock.

One of its major attractions is the Cutty Sark, the famous ship formerly used for tea trading, which is displayed to public and attracts millions of visitors every year.

Among its most remarkable buildings are:

The Queen’s House: a Royal residence which nowadays forms part of the National Maritime Museum, keeping a great collection of maritime paintings.

The Palace of Placentia: main residence and place of birth of many members of the Tudor family and house of Lord Cromwell.

Besides a rich and outstanding history, Greenwich has an interesting present too. It is home of the anual Great River Race attracting thousands of rowing lovers every year. Its beautiful park and its markets, where everything from second hand books to vintage clothing could be found, are the perfect place to get lost and feel away of the city hustle.

Other Greenwich attractions are the updated Planetarium and the traditional National Maritime Museum, which are a must for those who have the privilege to visit this exciting London area.
