Join the proper health care attitude during your stay in London.
We strongly recommend you to contract a travel insurance before traveling to London. In London there are many public hospitals with excellent infrastructure, high-tech equipments and comfortable interning rooms. However, all the services provided by the National Health Service (NHS) are only free to UK residents. Despite this, foreigners will receive immediate and necessary treatment at London hospitals.
London authorities keep a high standard of hygiene throughout the city, but with the cold temperatures, crowded means of transport and intense lifestyle, you will have to take care of your health. The food hygiene and water purity are very controlled, so you should simply observe the normal precautions when consuming food products, i.e. ensure it is thoroughly cooked, or that it is within the expiry date.
London private medical services can be contracted, but first try to check out if your home country holds a UK healthcare agreement. In this case, you could access to free or reduced-cost medical treatment.
If you are planning to bring medicine to London, our advice is to bring a letter of your doctor, or a well-labeled medicine approved by a pharmacist. In case of emergency, you must dial 999. Also the single European emergency number (112) works in the UK.
London’s medical system covers any assistance you could need, so you must feel safety about that. It is easy to find a close Walk-in centre (for minor injuries and illnesses) for a nurse advice, or private clinics for a dentist, surgeon, and chemist advice.
